Ian is a 14-year old avid sailor from Edgewater Yacht Clubs Advanced Optimist Team. He has been sailing since the age of 8. Ian started sailing in his own backyard on Lake Erie and is currently successfully competing internationally. Since 2009, Ian has continually placed well in venues around the US and internationally.
In 2013, Ian marked a number of accomplishments as making the US National Optimist Sailing Team; placing 5th American in the North American Championship in Bermuda; earned 2nd place at the Southeast Championship in Pensacola, Florida; 1st place USODA Great Lakes Opti Championship; 1st place Midwinter Championship at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans; 2nd place (340 boats, 27 states represented and 23 countries) at the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta in Miami, Florida at Coral Reef Yacht Club. Ian was awarded Edgewater Yacht Clubs Sailor of the Year, the first time awarded to a youth in the adult class!
In 2014, Ian added more impressive achievements to his sailing career. He placed 2nd place at the Coral Reef Yacht Clubs Spring Fling; won a spot on the US National Optimist Sailing Team for the second year with the best finish ever of an I-LYA sailor and will be a part of the European Championship Team (top 1% in the USA) as one of the four sailors representing Team USA in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. He is the first I-LYA sailor to qualify for this prestigious team. There is no stopping this young man from Rocky River, Ohio!
